Volunteers are important to the North Douglas Library District and enhance, rather than replace, library staffing. Volunteers are an integral part of a well-run, efficient, fiscally responsible library, whose unique talents add to visitors' positive library experience.
Volunteer Requirements
All volunteers are required to submit a Volunteer Application and complete an interview process before beginning volunteer work for the North Douglas Library District. In addition, volunteers must meet the following requirements before their applications can be accepted:

Prospective volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. School aged children in sixth (6th) through twelfth (12th) grades (or equivalent) interested in becoming more involved with the library are encouraged to learn more on the Teen Volunteer page.

All adult volunteers are subject to a background check before they can begin volunteering.

Volunteers should be prepared to commit to a minimum of two hours per week for at least three months, unless otherwise approved by the Director.

Volunteer work is on an "at will" basis and the District has the right to terminate the volunteer's working association at any time, for any reason.

Visit the library. Browse the collection, view a rotating display, meet friends, work on the monthly community puzzle, or just say hi!

Attend programs and events. Attendance statistics help the library determine which activities are popular and customize future offerings to our community. In addition to scheduled events, the library generally has on-your-own activities each week. Ask at the library desk to see what we have!

Check out materials. Circulation helps determine which materials the District should order in the future. Looking for something specific? Request more titles in your favorite genre or by your favorite author at the library desk.

Use online services and resources. Did you know the District receives reports on which online services and resources are used each month?

Attend a Friends of the Mildred Whipple Library meeting. Learn more on the Friends of the Library page.

Fill out our surveys. Did you know the library has a feedback survey on our website? We encourage suggestions of any type - whether you have a purchase request or a program suggestion, we would like to hear about it. Occasionally we will also send out specific feedback surveys.
